Hi all, after lurking in the forum I finally made an account so I can start picking your brains. My partner and I are experienced chin parents and, after losing our long time chin love, we are now considering adopting a same-sex pair from a reputable breeder. I am less concerned with colour/mutations than I am with the health of the chins. Our previous chin was a fur-farm rescue and we haven't purchased directly from a breeder before. We have an amazing vet lined up who provided amazing care for our previous lad (Dr. Mavromatis from the Links Rd Animal and Bird Clinic) as well as a ferret nation cage with lots of ledges and accessories, empty and waiting for its new occupants. Any breeder recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Once there was a time when I could name 10 good hobby breeders in Ontario. Now sadly there aren't any I would recommend. There are 4 that have a bad reputation in the chin world and most othere are back yard breeders. I run a rescue and have many chins but I understand people sometimes want pets from a good breeder.
There are some breeders in other provinces that do ship. I have had 3 chins shipped from British Columbia from Alderbrook Chinchillas. There is also Chinchilla Park Place in BC as well.

That is great that you had a rescue chin? Would you consider another pair of rescue chins that are looking for their forever home?

That is great that you had a rescue chin? Would you consider another pair of rescue chins that are looking for their forever home? I would consider, but it would depend on age, present health, if any of their history is known, things like that. My reason for looking for a good breeder this time around is that my past rescue chins have had genetic malo and, while I know it's always a roll of the dice to some extent, I was hoping that by going through a breeder I might have a chance at avoiding some of the heartbreak and life-cutting-short genetic problems. While I know I will always have rescue chins in the future, a large part of me wants to be much more financially established so that I can one day set up a rescue of my own and give love to all of those who so desperately need it.

I understand the heartache of dealing with ill furbabies. It is wonderful that you plan to help these loving creatures. In the mean time you may consider fostering. It is very rewarding watching their personalities change as you provide them a loving home while they wait for their forever home. . It is a great feeling fostering rescue animals.

I still have these two little guys available at the top of the page. They are brothers and are already caged together. I have their parents and grandparents and they are from very healthy show lines. I do ship to Ontario and the cost is quite affordable. members.shaw.ca/chinchillas/chinchillasforsale.htmlTanya does have quite a few rescues that are looking for homes as well if you would consider it.
