Let me first start with this sweet little bun was found by one of our officers in a park at the end of the summer, when he brought him in he told me to check the bunny out and see if it needed medical attention because he was in such rough shape. What I saw was a very malnourished rabbit that had urine scalding and feces stuck onto his bum. He had a ribbon tied around his neck. First thing I did was give him a bath and I know rabbits hate water but he was so good he just sat there (probably felt a hell of a lot better) and I dried him off after and brushed out his matty fur and from that moment I made it my personal mission to make this rabbit healthy and ready for adoption. He got lots of veggies and snacks and after a few weeks he no longer was terrified of people picking him up or handling him.
A little while later he was adopted, and I was happy for him and assumed he had found an nice loving family.. finally! Today he was returned to us, and what I saw when I looked in that box made me cry! It was a very skinny bunny who stank of cigarettes! I am so upset, this poor rabbit was let down twice by incompetent idiots.. and the one that I personally made better is now back to where he started. That is so not fair. I was told I could foster him if I wanted but I feel he is not THAT skinny that it's urgent, and I would rather him be in our adoption ward and be seen by a nice family. I will be bringing him special treats and veggies, poor thing sat in front of his food bowl eating for hours right when I put him in his cage today.

People suck. Sorry. But it's true. There are just a handful of us that do care... It's frustrating, I know... I just don't often look on kijiji anymore. Too upsetting. My lil Milo... We realized the other day it's likely that half his life is gone by now... And a big chunk of it was spent in another home with who knows what care and then in the shelter for a month... We're spoiling him extra now lol he gets fresh veggies lol and an assortment of seeds, pellets... List goes on! Hah!

Lots of animals spend a lot of their lives living in a sad state, and then get rescued and finally have the love and care they deserve. But the nice thing about the way animals think is that they don't dwell on the past, or think about the future, all they care about is how they feel right now. It helps me feel better if we get an animal in that dies the next day or needs to be euthanized they finally got to feel cared for even if it was for only a day, that's all they will remember

I can try a couple rescues but they never help me, one has but they have taken a few rabbits lately I don't want to abuse their kindness

That is such a sad story I'm really glad that they returned the rabbit rather than the poor bunbun living out the rest of its days in their smoke shack.

Looks like this story is going to have a happy ending! I very happy to say my friend/riding instructor is taking him, she owns a few rabbits! So he will be in good hands I am bringing him to her tomorrow after work

Cricket was dropped off at his new home today! He is very boney and still has a bit of urine burns on him but with the proper care and love he will be getting he will be back to normal in no time
