There he is - little Kiwi - the wee fuzz butt that captured my heart and lead me to this forum. Momma has your new house all sterilized and waiting for the OK to bring you to your furever home little one.

I can hardly wait Jen and Stellaluna. I'm so excited to bring him home and get to know him. He sounds like such a special little boy and since I have no kids or other pets he will have all my attention.

Alison, Nicole works full time and goes to school. She will see what her schedule is like. I know you want to rush to get Kiwi but we don't do rush adoptions. As for being vet recommended, most vets have very little experience with proper chin care.
In the meantime check out the forum and get to know us. We have a lot of great chin owners here!

Hi Tanya
In fact I chose my vet because they specialize in exotics so in this case they do.
The folks I have met here so far are great. That said I run a business and chat in other places so a big time investment in another forum isn't something I can do while I'll try my best.

We find a lot say they know exotics but then suggest fresh veggies or meds that aren't recommended. My own chin vet is in Mississauga as well but is not that one. Even then I go in and tell THEM what I want.
Thank goodness for Pam!!

I love my vet, don't get me wrong, but she's learned a TON from when my chinchillas got sick...the only place I know that "specializes" in chinchillas is Guelph, but they are REALLY expensive, and (at least for me) REALLY far away. My female is tail fungus right now, and when I talked to my vet about it, she wanted to run tests which I couldn't afford, so instead she told me to shampoo my female (a BIGGGGGGGGG NO, NO!!!!), and thanks to everyone here, I was able to find a cheap solution, that will work for her, and cost way less.
Forums like these are in valuable to everyone involved, even the breeders because it allows people to share idea, and myabe look at a problem in another way that the original person never thought of.
After having chinchillas I thought I knew a lot about then, but I've learned a ton since I got here, and becuase of that my female (who is a rescue and has medical issues) is doing MUCH better than before, and I'm sure she's happy about that!
Anything that is worth while is worth alllllllllll the waiting in the world. Rushing never solves anything!

Tanya is right! Just becasue a vet is an exotic vet does not mean they know very much about chins. In fact they have had only about 2 weeks training on chins specifically, some less than that.
I've learned that the hard way. After lots of years of taking chins to exotic vets I haven't found very many who really know proper treatment of many of the illnesses. Just ask everyone here and on the forums how difficult it is.
The vet I work with now admitted to me that they receive very little training and it is left up to each individual one to do their own research.
